Microsoft Windows 9 Release Date: Windows 9 Early Build Sneak Peek on Sept. 30, Final Build 2015
As far as mobile operating systems are concerned, there is little doubt that Apple's iOS and Google's Android are the best in the market.
Although Microsoft also has its own operating systems, they are different for smartphones and tablets - Windows Phone OS for smartphones and Windows RT for tablets.
In fact, with so many different operating systems for different devices, it is often confusing when trying to understand Microsoft's OS. Apart from Windows RT and Windows Phone OS, Microsoft also has Windows 8 for desktop PCs. Nevertheless, it seems that Microsoft is looking forward to combining the operating systems for tablets and smartphones into one.
Now, the Redmond-based tech behemoth is getting ready to introduce the Windows 9, a new operating system by combining Windows RT and the Windows Phone OS. As of now, Windows 9 is scheduled for release sometime in 2015, but an early build of the forthcoming OS may be released in an event on Sept. 30. However, the details regarding the event have yet to be disclosed.
As far as the title of the operating system is concerned, it is unlikely that the OS will eventually be called Windows 9, as Microsoft plans to simply name its latest operating system as "Windows."
The latest commercials released by Microsoft for the Lumia 930 offers ample proof of this as the advertisement does not mention the term "Windows Phone" at all. In addition, the commercial just refers to the operating system as "Windows."
However, this commercial is not the only indication, because even HTC's latest Windows-run One M8 smartphone is not called a Windows Phone. It is simply called the HTC One M8 for Windows.
Since its earliest operating systems, Microsoft has been numbering its OS builds with titles like Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 7, and Windows 8. However, with the release of Windows 9 imminent, it does not seem to matter anymore.
Henceforth, Microsoft plans to simply release continuous updates for the upcoming Windows 9 rather than releasing big new operating systems.
