Kanye West's 'Jesus Walks’ Secured Success on 'The College Dropout; 'It Touched People in a Place Where Rap Music Rarely Touches People... the Heart' (VIDEO)

Rhymefest, a friend and long time collaborator with the famous rapper and co-writer on Kanye West's "Jesus Walks," stated West's career would not have been as successful without the powerful musical piece.

"When you do great things, you know it, Whenever you make a song, you know when it's special. After ['Jesus Walks'] was made, we knew it was special," Rhymefest said in an interview with HipHopDX.

He continued, "Looking back on it, we would not view Kanye the same way without it. Kanye would not have as many chances with the public as he has had without that critical piece of the puzzle. It touched people in a place where Rap music rarely touches people these days, and that's the heart."

In 2011, West mentioned the impact "Jesus Walks" had on "Otis," a track off his Watch the Throne album which featured Jay Z. "I made 'Jesus Walks,'" West boastfully raps on the song. "I'm never going to hell."

West's The College Dropout was released ten years ago on Feb 10. The rapper's fiancée took to Instagram to post about the album on its ten-year anniversary.

"10 years ago today Kanye released his 1st album The College Dropout! This was a game changer! Could only imagine what you were thinking and feeling today 10 years ago!" she posted, adding, "Happy anniversary to the best producer/artist over the past decade!!!! Can't wait for the next 10 years! Gonna be listening to this album all day. #TheCollegeDropout #ChangedHipHop."

West also took to his Twitter page to thank fans for their unwavering support and assured them he is still the same guy he was back then.

"Ten years later I am still the same kid from Chicago, still dreaming out loud, still banging on the door," he tweeted.

West has not abandoned the famous tune ten years later and continues to perform the song. On his latest tour "Yeezus" West brought out a mock Jesus Christ in which, he then has a heartfelt exchange with. Christ then ascends to the top of the mountain as West bows in supplication before Him.
