GTA 6 Release Date: 2017 Launch? Back to Vice City With Female Lead?

It has only been a few months since the release of 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'GTA Online' and gamers are already expecting a sequel to come out in the next few years.

Currently, Rockstar Games is focusing on the improvement of their online multiplayer port of the open-world series, ''GTA Online', as they announced during E3. The studio however, is not dismissing the possibility of a 'GTA 6' in the years to come.

"We've got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do. We don't know what GTA 6 will be, but we've got some ideas," said Rockstar president Leslie Benzies.

The possibility for a 'GTA 6' is real, but there are no confirmed reports or announcements about a development taking place yet. This is understandable as Rockstar is currently busy with 'GTA Online'. The studio has however, stated that they would like the next GTA game to revisit all the cities of the previous GTA games.

"Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas. In that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting," Benzies said.

Benzies said that Vice City was a setting that the studio would love to revisit in the next-gen consoles. However, he added that Vice City was as much about the era as it was the setting.

"Miami in the 1980's is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period." he said.

'GTA V' writer, Dan Houser, had confirmed that the next GTA game won't be taking place in London as the first GTA game did in 1999 titled 'Grand Theft Auto: London 1969'. Houser has also said the game might see a female main character, if the setting and situation was suitable.

"In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course, we just haven't found the right game for it yet, but it's one of the things that we always think about," Houser said.

'Grand Theft Auto 6' could be seeing a 2017 release date, but nothing is official as of yet.
