'Ghostbusters 3' Movie Release Date, Cast News: Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray & Ernie Hudson Talk Upcoming Film

In latest 'Ghostbusters 3' news, original stars Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray expressed their thoughts regarding the upcoming franchise in the popular movie franchise.

"The Aykroyd family is delighted by this inheritance of the Ghostbusters torch by these most magnificent women in comedy," said Aykroyd to The Hollywood Reporter on January 28 after the official film cast were revealed online.

"My great grandfather, Dr. Sam Aykroyd, the original Ghostbuster, was a man who empowered women in his day, and this is a beautiful development in the legacy of our family business."

In addition, former co-star Ernie Hudson has mixed feeling regarding the new film reboot when he recently went on social media.

"Four fiercely funny, foxy, females busting ghosts... phenomenal!," wrote Hudson on Twitter on January 29.

However, Hudson previously admitted that he was not originally on board with an all-female cast in the future sci-fi movie.

"I love the idea of including women, I think that's great. But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don't think the fans want to see that," said Hudson on The Telegraph last October.

Director Paul Feig went on Twitter (on January 28) to reveal that all-female cast will star Kristen Wiig ('The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'), Melissa McCarthy ('Mike & Molly'), and Saturday Night Live co-stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

Last year, Bill Murray revealed in a previous interview who he wants to star in the popular movie franchise in reference to the rumored all-female cast.

"Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny - God, she's funny," said Murray to the Toronto Star while promoting his new film titled 'St. Vincent' (which also co-stars the 'Mike & Molly' actress) at the Toronto International Film Festival.

"I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."

The 'Ghostbuster 3' film is expected to arrive in movie theaters on July 22, 2016.
