'Frozen' 2 Sequel Release Date? Disney's Big Plan For Franchise: Toys and Attractions for Next 5 Years
Rumor has it that a sequel to the popular film 'Frozen' will be set in motion for production, but it will not be released in theaters anytime soon.
'Frozen 2' has been seriously considered by Disney, due to the major success of the original film. Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "This has real franchise potential. We expect to see not just new product but continued interest in this and continued impact on the bottom line for quite a while. Its success speaks volumes on the future of animation at our company."
History has shown that sequels to Disney's animated films never hit the big screen, and launch straight to DVD upon release. This time around, Disney hopes to take their time to create a movie well worth the cost of admission at the cinema.
Currently, there is no confirmed storyline or plot, so anything is possible for the 'Frozen' characters in the next film. Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee were asked about the next installment in the series, they had this to say, "Anything's possible, who knows what's next. We love these characters."
Meanwhile, Disney has plans for 'Frozen' and its themes for the next five years, in terms of products and attractions.
"'Frozen' is one of the company's top five franchises. So you can expect us to take full advantage of that over the next at least five years," Iger said during one of the company's conference call.
Apparently, Disney is planning to launch new rides at Disneyland with a 'Frozen' theme.
For anyone who doesn't know much about the film, 'Frozen' is a movie about sisters Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. The pair attempt to end a curse of an eternal winter in their Kingdom, that was originally set off by Elsa. The only way to remove the curse is by an act of true love.
Since the movie debuted, it has raked in an estimated $1.2 billion worldwide. It is now the fifth-highest grossing film of all time, according to the Press Herald.
