'Yakuza 0' US Release, News: Sega’s Sequel Yakuza To Arrive Early Next Year?

Sega has revealed information on the release date of its hit video game "Yakuza 0."

"Yakuza 0" is set to be released on Jan. 24, 2017 for the PlayStation 4 in Europe and North America, according to PlayStation's blog. As per the publication, the title is set for an exclusive release and it is assumed that the game is filled with various references from the 1980s as it is set in 1988.

In terms of characters, it is revealed that the protagonist is the 20-year-old Kazuma Kiryu. He is set to be joined by Goro Majima, who is described as "the guy with the snake-skin jacket" and the hot steak of insanity." According to IGN, the latter is set to have his own combat skills and abilities and the title reveals more details about him prior to the time be becomes Shimano's Mad Dog.

In a statement at a press release, as cited by Game Spot, Sega said that what lied in a man's past defined his future and they learned a lot about what inspired Kiryu down the paths he took in the rest of the "Yakuza" series.

The studio added that one did not get to be called dragon without being able to knock a few heads. It is further revealed that combat-styles could be hot-swapped during fights for some of the most intense battles in the series to date.

Developed by Sega, "Yakuza 0" stands as a prequel to the "Yakuza" game franchise. It is set in 1988 Kamurocho, a fictionalized version of Tokyo's Shinkuku Golden Gai and Kabukicho territories.

"Yakuza 0" was initially released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan in Mar. 2015 and in Taiwan on May 14, 2015.
