‘True Detective’ Season 2 Cast Rumors: New Cast to Be Confirmed By the End June 2014

True Detective will begin casting for its second season by the end of June, creator Nic Pizzolatto confirmed in a radio interview.  Season 2 will be premiering with brand new characters and no reprised roles from first season lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

In his interview at To the Best of Our Knowledge, Pizzolatto divulged that Season 2's theme would be completely different from its freshman year, although it will still feature the same "psychosphere ambience," Variety reported.  Three leading actors will be cast in season 2 with the main location being in California and a few scenes being shot in Los Angeles.

"The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them.  We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we'll probably start casting within the coming month," Pizzolatto said in the podcast interview.

Rumor has it that Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain was offered a female lead role for True Detective Season 2, but she quickly turned it down and instead suggested that she is a better avid supporter of the show.  "It's an awkward thing because when all that attention happens - it takes away from whoever plays the role.  I'm a big fan of the series. I'm going to watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first,"  she said, according to Variety.

In other news, social blog Vulture wrote possible strong candidates for True Detective's female lead: Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams, Lupita Nyong'o, Greta Gerwig, Amy Adams, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt, and Melissa McCarthy.
