'Transformers 5' Release Date, Cast News: Megan Fox Set to Return Summer 2017?
'Transformers: Age of Exinction', the fourth installment of the Transformers movie series, is doing well at the box offices worldwide, while the next film is expected to arrive in a few years' time, possibly in the summer of 2017.
However, what is worrying fans of the franchise is that the next movie in the series will not have Michael Bay as the director, nor Mark Wahlberg in the role of the masked superhero.
Bay confirmed earlier this month that he will not be directing the next 'Transformers' film, but desires to pursue other film projects instead. In fact, he initially made a half-hearted announcement just a few hours before the premiere of 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' about his decision.
Bay remarked, "There's a lot that's unexplored, but that's for the next director to figure out. They're hard movies to do and it takes every day for two years. They're fun, but they're hard."
In fact, Bay had been giving clues about passing the responsibility to another director, but it seems he has finally made up his mind. Following Bay, star Mark Wahlberg has also expressed his lack of interest in returning to future 'Transformers' franchise. He has clearly stated that he does not prefer acting in sequels, and likes stand-alone films instead.
It is still not certain as to who will be the new director, and the producers of the film will have a hard time looking for a new one, especially one who can match Bay's explosive and fast-paced cinematography.
In addition, rumors are afloat regarding Megan Fox's return to the franchise, but with Bay moving on from 'Transformers' that is highly doubtful, especially because she has been busy with another Bay franchise, the recently premiered 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'.
Meanwhile, as fans are expecting the fifth installment of the franchise in another few years, but the plot is still unknown. However, it is almost certain that 'Transformers 5' will have to continue from where "Age of Extinction" left off.
