'Spiderman' New Actor News, Rumors: Asa Butterfield Tapped for Role in Upcomming Movie?

As the race for the new Spider-Man edges closer and closer to its final decision, recent news has suggested that the previously announced frontrunner, Asa Butterfield will claim the coveted role.

The news comes from an insider at Latino Review, and while they claim to have known since Friday, Marvel has yet to make the appropriate announcement. It is believed that they are only now waiting for all the contracts to be signed and finalized.

The reveal of the chosen actor would have to come soon as Spider-Man's debut has been promised in the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War,' currently in production.

"Our sources on the ground don't yet have details of the scope of the new Peter Parker role, but Marvel has said earlier in the year that the character would debut in next springs Captain America: Civil War, which is currently in production," writes Latino Review.

The new Spider-Man will be depicted as a young teenage high schooler, and will remain so in his subsequent solo films. Butterfield definitely fits the description as he's currently 18 but appears as if he could be years younger.

Amongst Butterfield the list of contenders included Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James.

"Butterfield will presumably make his first appearance in Civil War next May followed by a solo Spider-Man movie with Sony and MCU characters on July 28th 2017. Rumors have Sony and Marvel planning to strike while the Spider-Man iron is hot beyond those two announced releases, but confirmable details are not available at this time," writes Latino Review.

'Spider-Man: The New Avenger' doesn't yet have a director.
