'Spider-Man: The New Avenger' Cast News: List of Director Seat Candidates for Upcoming MCU Film

The 'Spider-Man' reboot is reportedly still actively seeking a director to helm the superhero's debut back to the big screen. While it was previously said that Drew Goddard would be the one to direct the project, a new report has now suggested that this won't be so.

"A previous report from March claimed that Drew Goddard, the filmmaker behind The Cabin in the Woods and Sony's aborted Sinister Six, was in talks to write and direct the new Spidey pic. Goddard was a solid and sensible choice, having had experience with Sony on Sinister Six and with Marvel creating Daredevil. But a new report leaves Goddard's name out of the picture entirely and instead reveals a familiar-feeling list of directors who are being considered to helm the new Spider-Man film instead," writes Collider.

Deadline has reported a list of directors Marvel and Sony are looking at to bring in the next Spider-Man movie. It follows:

"There is 50/50 and Warm Bodies writer/helmer Jonathan Levine; Ted Melfi, writer/director of Golden Globe-nommed St. Vincent; Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore; John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors/writers of the updated version of John Hughes' Vacation; and Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean writer/director Jared Hess."

The reboot title has been officially announced to be 'Spider-Man: The New Avenger.' The studio plans to skip the origin story of the character and get right into his early life in high school. The franchise is also slated for 3 to 4 movies, each focusing on a high school year of Peter Parker.

Spider-Man will however appear initially within the MCU in 'Captain America: Civil War.'

On that note, the next webslinger standalone film, 'Spider-Man: The New Avenger', is set to premiere on July 28th, 2017.
