New Spider-Man Actor News: 'Bates Motel' Star Freddie Highmore Interested in Taking on Role

It appears that almost every week a new young actor is being rumored to in the running to become the next 'Spectacular Spider-Man', but this most recent one may come as a shock to many.

The latest rumors swirl around none other than the Norman Bates actor in A&E's 'Bates Motel' series, Freddie Highmore. For those that may not know, He plays the prequel character to the incestuous serial killer in Hitchcock's classic film 'Psycho'.

His name has been swimming in the pool of candidates and in a recent interview with IGN, the actor has finally been able to make a statement about it.

"Obviously I would love to be considered," Highmore says, "That would be fantastic. I guess we'll just see how things go."

It would be probably be difficult to find a young male actor who wouldn't want to play the webslinging hero. Highmore goes on to state why he believes this is so:

"You always feel like you can identify with him. He's that kind of guy at school who wasn't perhaps in the really cool group, but who was extremely intelligent and managed to find confidence in being Spider-Man - in this other side to his life."

"I was going to try and make a comparison between Spider-Man and Norman Bates, but I'm not sure...it's probably best to stay clear of that one."

Highmore was finally asked about how he would feel tackling a franchise of that magnitude and a role with so much history. He answers:

"I guess that's always something you would think about. At the same time it would be such a fantastic role... As with Norman Bates, some people would always say, 'Oh, is it tricky playing Norman knowing he has this history behind him, and with Anthony Perkins' classic performance that you will always be compared to?' I guess similarly with the actor who ends up playing Spider-Man there will always be comparisons made with Tobey Maguire's great performance and most recently Andrew Garfield."

The studio will most likely make its decision in the next couple months as they'll be shooting 'Captain America: Civil War', the character's first appearance, in the Spring.
