'Spider-Man' New Actor News, Rumors: 'Ender's Game' Asa Butterfield Frontrunner for Peter Parker Role?

Earlier this week, a shortlist of actors was announced to all be contenders for the role of Spider-Man. In this list of names was 'Enders Game' actor Asa Butterfield, and according to various sources, the actor is the current the frontrunner.

The confirmation comes from Latino Review, "Asa Butterfield Leads the Bunch. We have reached out to Asa's reps who have given us a 'no comment'. We have also reached out other industry sources who have confirmed that he is indeed the frontrunner including one who believed that he already had bagged the role, by stating: 'Marvel had liked him since day one'."

This rumor can only be taken with a grain of salt, as their has been no official confirmation between Marvel nor Sony. As for what we know right now, Butterfield is still in competition with Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James.

Whatever the case is, spectators can all expect an answer in the very near future. Spider-Man can't go un-casted for much longer, as he needs to make his appearance in 'Captain America: Civil War.' That movie goes into production in the next couple weeks or so.

The character isn't expected to have a heavy role or anything, but his debut is still highly anticipated.

"Spider-Man's scenes don't shoot until June, but the contract negotiations between the studios and the lucky actor will no doubt take some time to hammer out. Not only is this kid signing on for appearances in the MCU, but also a series of standalone films for Sony. This is going to be a major commitment," writes Collider.

It's also been rumored that the superhero's first solo film will adopt the title, 'Spider-Man: The New Avenger,' solidifying his spot in the MCU. That won't be set for release until 2017.
