'Spider-Gwen' Movie Rumors, News: Female Spider-Man Spin-Off Character to Receive Solo Film?

While fans are all clamoring about the rebooted 'Spider-Man' franchise, recent news has suggested that there's a chance we can all expect to see a 'Spider-Gwen' spin-off film sometime in recent years.

For those unfamiliar, 'Spider-Gwen' has become a popular spin-off comic book series as of late and stars Peter Parker's girlfriend in an alternate universe where she gets bit by a radioactive spider instead of Peter.

Bleeding Cool comes with the report:

"NYC, I understand from well-connected sources that moving Spider-Gwen into an ongoing series was a decision that came directly from Isaac Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel, the man who saw Marvel Studios start making live action movies, who sold Marvel to Disney, who is Disney's largest single shareholder, who moved the Star Wars comics license to Marvel - and who is always packing."

More evidence suggest that the 'Untitled Female Spider-Man Project' could have possibly been linked to Spider-Gwen through a past Sony email leak by writer/producer Lisa Joy writing to Sony exec Rachel O'Conner in May 2014 stating:

"Also, congrats on a fantastic opening weekend! Jonah and I snuck out for a date night to see the movie and had a blast. RIP Gwen Stacy - gone but never forgotten. Can we bring her back as Spiderwoman? Or can I just be best friends with Emma Stone?"

Despite if the rumors are true, there is a good sign that we will be seeing this character a lot more often outside of her respective comic series.

"Solicitations for Edge Of Spider-Verse #2 were released in early June 2014... while too small a gap, even for conspiracy theorists, this could have been enough for Isaac Perlmutter to make sure any Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman was capitalised on by Marvel Comics first ahead of Sony," writes Bleeding Cool.
