Sony New Movies News: Sony Announces Release Dates for 16 Films, ‘Bad Boys 3’, ‘The Dark Tower’, & More

Sony Pictures has just announced the release dates of 16 movies, including the highly anticipated 'Bad Boys 3' and 'Dark Tower.' These two films will hit theaters in 2017.

Quoting a press release issued by Sony Pictures, IB Times reports that 'Bad Boys 3' will be released on Feb. 17, next year, while 'Bad Boys 4' will hit theaters in on July 3, 2019. These two movies are continuation of the franchise, which began two decades back.

The original 'Bad Boys' film was released in 1995. It starred Will Smith as Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett. In the movie, both the characters are police officers investigating a case related to stolen drugs. A sequel to 'Bad Boys' was released in 2003, wherein both Smith and Lawrence reprised their characters as police officers. The plot of the second movie focused on the drug Ecstasy.

In the same press release, Sony announced that it would be releasing 'The Dark Tower' on Jan. 13, 2017. This movie is based on Stephen King's novel, and Deadline reports that the first movie in the series will be an adaptation of the book "The Gunslinger." The plot of 'The Dark Tower' narrates the story of a gunslinger called Roland Deschain, who is looking for a dark tower to save the world.

Sony also announced the release dates of 14 other movies in 2017, including 'Resident Evil 6' (Jan. 27), 'Baby Driver' (March 17), 'Barbie' (June 2), 'Uncharted' (June 30) and 'The Lamb' (Dec. 8). In addition, Sony will release a number of movies in 2016. These include 'Money Monster' releasing on April 8, 'The Shallows' on June 24, 'Ghostbusters' on July 15, 'Patient Zero' on Sept. 2, 'The Magnificent Seven' on Sept. 23, 'Underworld 5' on Oct. 21, 'Passengers' on Dec. 21 and 'Jumanji' on Dec. 25.

Going by the latest announcement, the release dates of 'Ghostbusters,' 'The Magnificent Seven' and 'Uncharted' have been rescheduled.
