Russell Wilson Baseball Player? Super Bowl Champion Looks to Bring World Series to Texas Rangers, 'A Very Unique Leader'

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson will attend the Texas Rangers' minor league camp in an attempt to make his major league debut on the diamond.

Wilson is well recognized as the exciting and fascinating quarterback of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, and was a former minor league infielder with the Colorado Rockies before his contract was recently traded to the Texas Rangers.

Wilson has not played professional baseball since 2011 and has since solely focusing on football.

As a result, the Rockies left him exposed in December's Rule 5 draft, which caught the Rangers' attention.

Fully mindful of Wilson's excellent character in a sports locker room, the Rangers chose him in the minor league segment of the draft.

"It was something we put a lot of thought into," said Josh Boyd, the Rangers' director of professional scouting to Fox Sports. "It was the chance to add a player we feel is very special, a very unique leader. Everything he preaches and goes out on the field and executes is something we feel embodies everything in our philosophy, things we preach at the minor league level up to the big league level."

Mark Rodgers, Wilson's baseball agent who still represents the Seahawks QB in marketing plans, told FOX Sports yesterday that Wilson still plans to arrive at the Rangers' camp in Surprise, Ariz.

"Baseball is fun for him," said Rodgers to Fox Sports.

During the off-season, the Rangers have acquired sluggers Prince Fielder and Shin-Soo Choo and are considered by many experts as one of the favorites to win the World Series this year.

However, the appearance of a career .229 minor league hitter might be the major story coming out of their spring camp.

Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels revealed to Fox Sports that Wilson would be the first Ranger of whom he would request an autograph from.

Wilson will attempt to become the first man in sports history to bring a championship to both the Seattle Seahawks and the Texas Rangers.
