'Reign' Season 4 Release Date News & Spoilers: Queen Elizabeth Succeeds In Taking Down Queen Mary?

"Reign" season 4 will follow Mary as she journeys back home to Scotland, her birth country. By the time season 4 premieres, Queen Mary is already a widow and is now responsible of taking care not just of herself but of her country's future.

In a recent interview, actress Adelaide Kane, who plays Mary, talked about her new self in the upcoming season. According to her, Mary will be a lot stronger, more independent and self-sufficient, because she knows that her people and kingdom heavily depend on her.

Another report about season 4 claims that one of Mary's greatest enemies will be her cousin Elizabeth, who is in control of England. Mary, Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth of England have always disliked each other since Elizabeth executed Lola following an assassination attempt on the queen.

In season 3, Mary swore to take down Elizabeth that she even asked for the help of Gideon to defeat her. In history, Elizabeth and Mary were deadly rivals because Elizabeth was considered the illegitimate heir to the English throne. The Catholics recognized Mary Stuart as the rightful heir instead.

According to reports, Mary will not succeed in defeating Elizabeth so she will just wait for her death in season 4. Spoilers also suggest that Mary will not secure the throne even with her marriage to Lord Darnely and Bothwell, and that Elizabeth will take her down by beheading her.

Since there are rumors that Mary will be killed in season 4, some fans speculate that the upcoming season will be the final season of the series.

"Reign" season 4 premieres in January 2017 on The CW.
