New Spider-Man Movie Rumors: Third Franchise Reboot Film Titled 'Spectacular Spider-Man'?

With the exciting news of Spider-Man's entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one might forget the development of the 'Sinister Six' movie that was previously announced. Director Drew Goddard was to helm the spin-off, but it has now been confirmed that he will instead direct a new Spider-Man standalone film.

The Latino Review also reports more news on what we can expect from the film courtesy of their contact, Senor Fenix.

It has been reported that the third reboot of the franchise will be titled "Spectacular Spider-Man," and span three movies as a series, released in consecutive summers.

The Latino Review has also listed some key information for us to look out for:

  • No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given.
  • New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role. The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter.
  • A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the "audition" to join the Avengers.
  • The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.

Casting for the new Spider-Man hasn't been confirmed and is believed to take place in several months.

Actor Dylan O' Brien was recently highly rumored to be in the lead for the role, but due to his age (23), and the fact that he's already involved in a series (Maze Runner), its unlikely that Marvel and Sony will be going that route.

The rumor revealing that Spider-Man wouldn't be white wasn't addressed, so it is potentially still up in the air if the studios are looking to use the Miles Morales character, although this is still highly unlikely.

'Spectacular Spider-Man' is speculated to release in July 28, 2017.
