'Nashville' Season 5 Release Date, Cast News: Series Leaks First Production Photos

"Nashville" is gearing up for its revival on CMT. Recently, the show shared via its official Twitter account some of their photos during their first day of production, which kicked off on September 1.

One of the photos features the front page of the script for an episode titled "The Wayfaring Stranger," while another shows some of the cast members during the initial table read. Some fans noticed that stars Connie Britton and Hayden Penettiere are missing in the photos.

Based on previous reports, Britton will appear in just a limited number of episodes in the upcoming season so her long-term future in the series is up in the air.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that the series might lose one of its major stars for the upcoming revival. Also, the show is reportedly looking to cast a transgender character for the 22-episode season 5.

According to reports, a transgender woman is going to play an important role in the life of Juliette as she recovers from a plane crash. As previously confirmed, Hayden Penettiere, who plays Juliette, has already signed on for all the 22 episodes of the new season, dismissing speculations that her character died after her plane went missing in the season 4 finale. While she survived the plane crash, however, her character was reportedly left with some major injuries that will take their toll on her career and personal life in season 5.

"Nashville" season 5 will see the return of Charles Esten, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen, Lennon Stella, Maisy Stella and Chris Carmack. It is set to premiere on January 5, 2017 on CMT.
