As if The Avengers wasn't enough to last a life time, Joss Whedon is making the jump to the small screen. Tonight's premiere episode will pick up immediately after the end of The Avengers.

Fans of the movie remember Agent Phil Coulson who was pronounced dead by the end of last year's blockbuster. Well, he's back to lead a new team of young, clever naturals. They may not have the superpowers of say a Superman or Spider Man, but they do have their wits.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is a show about the world of super-heroes as seen through the eyes of everyday people," director Joss Whedon said.

"Looking at some of the stories that didn't get the grand franchise movie treatment - stories that are smaller, but also involving heroics," Whedon said.

"It's about the relationship among the agents as well as with the people with the super powers, and it's about how they're going to cope with and deal with things as a team," Season 1 cast member Ming-Na Wen, who plays Agent Melinda May explained.
