Lecrae Speaks Out on Katy Perry Lawsuit; 'It's My Guy Flame's Song...that Statement About the Witchcraft...I Don't Stand Behind That' (VIDEO)
Lecrae addressed the lawsuit against Katy Perry in a recent MTV interview in which the rapper revealed he does not stand behind Christian rapper Flame's statements.
The artist known as Flame filed the suit against Perry for allegedly copying off of his song "Joyful Noise," which features Lecrae and John Reilly, with her song "Dark Horse."
The suit states, "Joyful Noise" was "irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in 'Dark Horse'."
MTV News questioned Lecrae on it since his name is mentioned in the lawsuit, "I'll say this - I have no qualms with Katy Perry. Love her and if she wants to talk at any point in time, I'm more than willing to that," he said.
"I was in Hong Kong [when] the press release went out and it's not my song - it's my guy Flame's song and I respect everyone's intellectual properties - but that statement about the witchcraft and stuff, that's not my statement and I don't stand behind that statement," he added.
He went on to say, "At the end of the day I hope for the best between all of that stuff that's going on over there, I'm over here and I don't want nothing to do with all that."
Lecrae is gearing up to release his newest album entitled Anomaly and has been making his rounds in the mainstream media. Christian fans are disappointed because the interview seems to peg the two Christian rappers against each other while favoring Perry.
"Dark Horse" speaks of a supernatural power that Perry will use against her man. Although Lecrae said he did not agree with Flame's statement concerning Perry and witchcraft Perry herself admitted that the song contained it.
"The lyrics are kind of witchy and dark," she said in an interview with MTV, adding it was a "witchy, spell-y kind of black magic-y idea."
According to multiple reports the suit said Perry not only copied the music, but affected Flame's reputation in the Christian music world by associating the tune with anti-Christian witchcraft and imagery because of Perry's controversial music video for "Dark Horse."
