'H1Z1' & 'Planetside 2' DDoS News: Lizard Squad Attacks Daybreak Games
Shortly after the CEO of Daybreak Games, John Smedley, confronted a recently convicted member of the Lizard Squad, the hacking group claimed responsibility for a new string of DDoS attacks on the studio's games.
The Lizard Squad is apparently acting in retaliation for what Smedley had to say about Julius "Zeekill" Kivimaki, who was charged on more than 50,000 counts in Finland, but will be able to avoid jail time.
In a series of posts on Twitter last week, Smedley referred to Kivimaki as a "dirtbag" and said that he would attempt to take him to civil court.
Kivimaki, who is seventeen years old, was linked to the DDoS attacks on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on Christmas Day that caused both online services to be down for days.
Writing on Twitter last night, Smedley confessed that Daybreak games, including H1Z1 and Planetside 2 experienced large DDoS attacks.
Smedley stated that all games developed by Daybreak have been affected as a result of at least two DDoS attacks, the second being much greater than the first.
The issues do not seem to be resolved as of yet.
"All games, websites, and forums are still impacted," said Daybreak on Twitter. "We do not have an ETA for when services will be restored. We are still working to resolve connectivity issues affecting many of you. Thank you for all your patience and understanding."
In addition to this, Smedley has posted a statement on Reddit, in which he speaks out against Kivimaki, his sentence, and the legal action that he will take against Kivimaki and others like him.
He is especially infuriated that the Finnish justice system which chose to let Kivimaki off so easily.
