'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Movie News, Spoilers: Captain Marvel Will Not Appear in Upcoming Sequel

Despite the many rumors and cries from fans, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn shut down any speculation that heroine Captain Marvel would be appearing in the sequel to his successful Marvel movie.

In a response to a follower's question, Gunn said via Twitter, "Still wonder if Captain Marvel will appear in 'GoTG2.'Getting this a lot this morning. As I said month ago, no, sorry."

Captain Marvel has had ties to the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comic series as one of her origin stories involves becoming a Kree/human hybrid. The Kree Empire was introduced in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.

Another rumor of a possible Venom symbiote plotline was also shot down. Gunn said, "'what about the symbiote rumors?' There are no rumors. Just guess, which are fun."

Ever since the announcement that Spider-Man would come to the MCU, it's no wonder that fans are speculating character announcements from the character's world as well.

Other roles Gunn has promised that won't be in the sequel are Gladiator of the Shi'ar Empire, Bug, Rom: Spaceknight, Nova/ Richard Rider and the return of Ronan the Accuser. Fans of Captain Marvel need not fret of her not appearing in GOTG 2 though. She will be getting her own film on November 2, 2018. Whoever will play her is yet to be announced.

Gunn has told fans that only six people know who will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Fans speculate that one of Gunn's favorite characters, Starhawk, could be introduced. Gunn has also stated that he would like to see more female characters in upcoming films as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
