GTX 980 Ti Release Date, Specs and Price Rumors: New NVIDIA Graphics Card Delayed Until 2016?

The GTX 980 Ti graphics card was first rumored to released in December 2014, but new reports are saying that it's looking at a 2016 launch. Supposedly, production problems are reportedly keeping the GTX 980 Ti from being released out onto the market.

On that note, WCCF Tech author Khalid Moammer recently revealed that the previous announcement came from a leak.

"According to earlier reports this GPU was originally scheduled to debut on 28nm sometime this year with a 16nm shrink in 2015, a leak later reaffirmed by semiaccurate. Reports had us believe that the 28nm GM200 GPU would debut soon after GM204 but that didn't happen. Nvidia's plan for 16nm GPUs was pretty much the same plan for GM204. Which is to introduce the new products in the holiday season. The most profitable season typically in the semiconductor industry and many others," Moammer wrote.

A techie named Jon Sutton from Game Debate announced alleged specs of the new GTX 980 Ti, according to Venture Capital Post.

"That's some serious power under the hood, but where does it all come from? Firstly, the GM200 GPU will be on a 551mm2 die, with an estimated 20-22 Streaming Multiprocessors Maxwell (SMM) giving a total of between 2560 and 2816 CUDA cores. This will all be on a 384-bit memory bus, up from the 256-bit bus seen on the GeForce GTX 980 and the GeForce GTX 970," Sutton posted.

The specs are promising, but the 2016 release date is so far. Other hopeful reports say that GTX 980 Ti may be unveiled by the end of January 2015. On that note, the graphics processing unit may have a price tag of $249 to $299 range, according to Tech Report.

Besides that, the GeForce GTX 980 is currently the top graphics processing unit in the world. The device "delivers incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features."
