Christian singer Ellie Holcomb was named the New Artist of the Year at the 45th Annual GMA Dove Awards, and she impressively did so as an independent artist.

"I am so honored and really shocked actually. What good company to be in and what an honor. I'm so humbled. What...a privilege it is to get to sing and to speak, like so many of you, about how Jesus has shown up in the heights of our joy and in the depths of our suffering," she said so very emotionally.

She is just the second independent artist to ever win the award.

Holcomb performed her song "Broken Beautiful" during the event and was also nominated for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for As Sure As The Sun. She also appeared with her father Brown Bannister to present Hillsong with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Not sure I've ever been more shocked/delighted about anything. Humbled & honored to win Best New Artist of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards last night!" she wrote on her Facebook.
