‘Doctor Strange’ Movie News: ‘Mind-Trip Action Film,’ ‘Crimson Peak’ Director To Make His Own Version?

Scott Derrickson's upcoming Marvel Comics film "Doctor Strange" is set to present magic battles while "Crimson Peak" director is rumored to produce his own "Doctor Strange" iteration.

In his interview with USA Today, Derrickson said that "Doctor Strange" is set to be a "mind-trip action film." With the visual crafts teased earlier, the film will feature the magic realm with Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme. The element of magic is said to set Derrickson's film apart from other Marvel films, which mostly featured action and combat skills.

In fact, Benedict Cumberbatch, who will play the titular role, had got an incredibly complicated emotional structure going on, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. This suggests that the film would feature Strange facing some dilemma that he needs to overcome.

In other news, "Crimson Peak" director del Toro had reportedly teamed up with Neil Galman in an effort to persuade Marvel Studios to have their "Doctor Strange" iteration, Movie Pilot reported. While they were eager to do the film, their proposal was actually turned down because Marvel had not thought that the timing is right for another iteration of one of its upcoming films.

Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" serves as one of Marvel's "Phase 3" films, along with Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's "Captain America: Civil War," Jon Watts' "Spider-Man," and Black Panther.

"Doctor Strange" centers on the adventures of Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses his hands' fine motor skills following an accident. He encounters the Ancient One, a master of magic who trains him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and safeguard the world from evil forces.

Aside from Cumberbatch as Strange, "Doctor Strange" also stars Rachel McAdams, Amy Landecker, Mads Mikkelsen, Scott Adkins, Michal Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Karl Mordo, and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, among others.

Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 4, 2016.
