'Captain Marvel' Movie Cast News: Ronda Rousey Keen to Portray the Superhero

Sometime back, Marvel Cinematic Universe announced that it would be introducing some new characters in the studio's Phase Three of films and it has already cast most of the leads, including Benedict Cumberbatch for the title role in 'Doctor Strange,' Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the untitled 'Spider-Man' movie, and Chandwick Boseman in the character of Black Panther. However, no actor has been named to play the character of Carol Danvers alias Captain Marvel.

Christian Today reports that as 'Captain Marvel' is scheduled to premiere three years hence, Marvel Studios still has sufficient time to chose an actress who would be ideal for the character. While many actresses have already expressed their desire to play the role, recently the reigning UFC champion Ronda Rousey too has expressed her interest to play the superhero.

A report in Screencrush states that recently Rousey participated in a Reddit AMA, and when a user asked the MMA champion which superhero she would like to portray in a movie, she replies, "A lot of the good ones have been taken, but I'd like to vie for Miss Marvel!"

Since Rousey is an expert in fighting, if she is chosen to play Captain Marvel it would mean that she would get to do a plenty of the action scenes herself. Currently, Rousey is the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, and she also received the Best Fighter award at the ESPY 2015. Earlier, Rousey starred in three movies, including 'The Expendables 3,' 'Furious 7,' and did a cameo as herself in 'Entourage.' In addition, Rousey will also feature in 'Mile 22,' slated for 2016 release, alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Other actresses who are also interested to portray Captain Marvel in the movie include 'The Help' star Jessica Chastain, 'Jurassic World' actress Bryce Dallas Howard, and 'Vikings' star Katheryn Winnick.

As of now, Marvel is yet to name the director for the upcoming film. The studio, however, announced in April that Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve would be writing the screenplay.

'Captain Marvel' is slated to premiere on Nov. 2, 2018.
