'Captain America: Civil War' Cast News: Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye, Tapped for Third Franchise Film

Despite rumors stating that Hawkeye would no longer appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Hollywood Reporter announced Monday that Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Hawkeye in the third Captain America film.

Since his cameo appearance in Thor, Hawkeye has been a pivotal part the Avengers team. Renner and the rest of the cast will start filming Captain America: Civil War in April.

Joining Renner is Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Return from Captain America: Winter Soldier is Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow.

Other characters that will most likely appear, or at least cameo, in the latest Captain America film is Spider-Man and Black Panther. Since joining the MCU, Marvel has announced that Spider-Man will have a solo film in 2017 with Black Panther getting his own film the following year.

Captain America: Civil War will take place after the events that will occur in Avengers: Age of Ultron. According to Marvel Comics, the civil war will take place after the government institutes a super hero regulation program. Captain America does not condone the government's actions, while Iron Man sides with them. The two launch a war against each other and other super heroes join sides.

Fans are eager to see if Hawkeye will have more personality than in previous films since this will be that character's first time appearing in a film that isn't Avengers.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015. Captain America: Civil War is set to release on May 6, 2016.
