'Captain America 3' Cast News, Plot Rumors: Black Panther to Replace Spider-Man in 'Civil War' Storyline?

Rumors always swirl around new movie releases, and none more so than around the release of a movie starring an iconic comic book character. The premiere for 'Captain America: Civil War', starring Chris Evans as the titular hero is set for May 6, 2016.

It's practically a given that Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon) and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones) will be reprising their roles from the first two installments in the series. However, this time they will be joined by Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Production is set to begin April 2015, with the Russo Brothers returning to direct the script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The movie will utilize the Civil War storyline from the comic books, not the Secret Wars storyline or a story about Captain America in the early 1950s as was previously rumored.

This leaves something of a stumbling block for speculators, as Spider-Man plays an important role in the Civil War storyline. In fact, Andrew Garfield is rumored to be connected to the project to reprise his role as Spider-Man, but this has not been confirmed.

Marvel may be in talks with Sony for the rights to use the character for the film, but it may be that Black Panther takes Spidey's place in the upcoming film.

Most recently, Daniel Brühl was signed onto the project, but the studio is being tight lipped, saying only that he will play a minor villain in 'Civil War', but has the option of becoming a major villain in a later movie release.

He may play Baron Zemo or Baron Mondo, but it's also rumored the Red Skull will be returning from suspended animation, which could also be an intriguing role for Brühl.
