Brazil's David Luiz and Luis Gustavo Praise God After Suffering Humiliating Defeat to Germany at FiFA World Cup (VIDEO)
After suffering, arguably, the worst loss in World Cup history, Brazil's Luis Gustavo and David Luiz were both seen praising God on live television in front of their fans and the entire world.
Brazil's dreadful 7-1 defeat to Germany was highlighted when their goalie (Júlio César) gave up five goals in the first half of the Semi-Finals match.
"Apologies to everybody, apologies to all the Brazilian people. I just wanted to see my people smile," said Luiz to a reporter in a post-game interview on June 8, "We all know how important it was for me to see all of Brazil be happy, at least because of football. They were better than us. They prepared better. They played better. It's a very sad day but it's also a day from which to learn."
Luiz's manager Luiz Felipe Scolari echoes his player's sentiment regarding their side's brutal loss to Germany.
"It's the worst moment of my football career and the worst day of my football life. But life goes on. Who is responsible for this result? I am, it's me. The blame for this catastrophic result can be shared between us all, but the person who decided the line-up, the tactics was me. It was my choice. We tried to do what we could, we did our best - but we came up against a great German team. We couldn't react to going behind. We got disorganized and panicked after the first goal and then it all went wrong for us. Not even the Germans can tell you how this happened - but it's because of their skills and you have to respect that. We have to learn to deal with it. My message for the Brazilian people is this. Please excuse us for this performance. I'm sorry that we weren't able to get to the final - and we're going to try to win the third place match. We still have something to play for," said Scolari to reporters after the game.
Some viewers were surprised to see Luiz and his Brazilian countryman Luis Gustavo expressing their Christian faith by falling to their knees and worshipping God after his team suffered the worst loss in their nation's history.
"Pray when you win, pray when you lose #respect and kudos to you #brazil," tweeted Rev. Kate Bottley on her Twitter page.
Another person who watched the game also went on social media to express their views regarding Luiz's faith.
"I respect Brazilian player David Luiz who kneels & prays God even when they lose the game. #FifaWorldCup #DavidLuiz," wrote a person who goes by the Twitter handle KishRdie after the game.
This is not the first time the Brazilian superstar expressed his Christian faith in public.
"My faith in Jesus gives me strength to keep on going out onto the field and to do my best, but I also want to inspire others - that is what God inspires me to do," said Luiz, according to a Christian Today report, "For me, true life is found in the relationship with Jesus Christ. I believe that everything in life belongs to God and he has a clear plan for us if we follow him."
