'Avengers 3' News & Update, Rumors: What Happens To MCU After Two 'Avengers' Films?

The third and fourth installments of "Avengers" are already in the offing, and recent reports claim that both will feature Thanos and the Infinity Stones. The next two "Avengers: Infinity War" films are expected to be the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Considering that, fans wonder what awaits the Marvel franchise after the two "Avengers" films.

"Avengers: Infinity War" film directors Joe and Anthony Russo spoke to IGN about the upcoming films and where the MCU is headed.

"I can't get into too much detail about who we're introducing, but these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie," said Anthony.

The director also revealed that since the two films will serve as the MCU finale, there is a huge chance for some plot heads to be ended. According to him, such will mark the beginning of new things.

Joe and Anthony helmed "Captain America: Civil War," in which Spider Man and Black Panther were both introduced to the MCU. There are speculations that new figures will also make their debut in the next two installments of "Avengers," and these new characters will give the MCU the opportunity to continue on with fresh story lines.

Rumors have it that a female character will join the roster of heroes in the upcoming "Avengers" film, Squirrel Girl, who will be played by Anna Kendrick. Brie Larson is also reportedly playing the heroine, Captain Marvel, and her movie is expected to premiere in 2018.

"Avengers: Infinity War" is set to hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
