New reports state that actress Angie Harmon, 42, and former NFL superstar Jason Sehorn have decided to take their lives in different directions and are splitting up. However, according to Harmon's representative, the break up is an "amicable" one.

"For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives," the 'Law & Order' star's rep said.

For those that cannot recall, Sehorn had proposed to the 'Rizzoli & Isles' actress back in 1998 on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'. After that, the pair got married in 2001 and have since had three daughters together, Finney, 11, Avery, 9, Emery 5.

On a side note, while this was Harmon's first marriage, it was Sehorn's second. The former NFL cornerback was at one point married to Whitney Casey, in 1999, but they split up after one year together.

In 2011, Harmon, talked about the difficulties of dividing her time filming her show in Los Angles and seeing her family in Charlotte, North Carolina, "We don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home," she told Your Tango.

Adding, "So I'm here [in L.A.]. We sometimes meet in Texas, a 2½-hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, so it's hard, but my children are so understanding."

An insider told US magazine that Harmon had not wanted to raise the children in Hollywood, "She didn't want them growing up in Hollywood and being exposed to the fast-paced life," the insider said.

 That same source also claimed that the long-distance arrangement hurt the marriage, "In the beginning, they really missed each other," the source recalled, "but then they got into a groove where one person took over the main responsibilities of parenting while the other was working."
