Andy Mineo Apologizes to Fans for Saying Christian Rap is 'Corny' in MTV interview (VIDEO)
Andy Mineo took to Facebook to apologize to fans for some comments he made about Christian rap on MTV's "RapFix Live."
The Christian rapper dropped by MTV News "RapFix Live," and Mineo addressed the negative that surrounds faith-based rap: "I hope people listen to the music. Don't write it off because there is a Christian doing it and it's been labeled that way, because if I'm honest with you, Christian rap for the most part has been corny," Mineo said in the short video.
The comments caused a backlash with some of Mineo's fans, who felt he was compromising the genre by mixing with mainstream media and talking negatively about the Christian genre. Before the show aired Wednesday, Mineo took to his Facebook page, apologizing to anyone he offended with his comments regarding Christian hip-hop.
"Today my first major MTV interview is airing! I'm excited about it, but, I also want to share a few things [with] those tuning in. Those interviews are so tough," Mineo wrote before hand. "So much is running through my mind as I think through how to navigate each answer on the spot. I'm constantly pondering how to be honest, faithful, considerate of all parties watching and biblically accurate ... I definitely could have chosen my words more carefully to consider my audience better in this interview. I'm learning. My apologies go out to anyone who may be offended by some of my statements on air."
In the interview that aired on Wednesday Mineo addressed the separation in Hip-hop. "For some reason, we have completely separated Christians who are rappers, and we have separated, I guess, regular rappers," the emcee said in the pre-taped segment. "I feel that we should be able to mingle, enjoy each other's company and trade ideas. I want to encourage people that are Christians and agree with what I agree with, but I want to be mixing it up with people that don't, so we can trade ideas and we can be of influence there too."
A fan of the rapper, Jason Sweetman, posted, "That is probably the REALEST thing I have ever heard! You represent Christ to the fullest and wear your Christianity well my brother! Our roads are always paved in Gods grace!" and the support went on and on.

In the sit down dialogue Mineo said one of his dream collaborators would be Kanye West. West has been making several references to God in his music, namely his latest album Yeezus.
"I'd love to get in a room with Kanye at some point, have a conversation. And see if something cooks up," Mineo stated. "I think he's in a unique place in his faith journey with Yeezus and seeing his live show, I'm like what up?"
Mineo admitted he has never heard Kanye speak about God like he is now, "you hear in his interviews he says stuff like, my new mission is I wanna honor God, I wanna please God" he said.
