'The Amazing Spider Man 2' Trailer, Plot Rumors / Mary Jane Cut from Sequel, 2 New Villains Introduced? Release Date May 2014 [VIDEO]

The Amazing Spider Man 2 released an exclusive trailer for the new super hero movie at Comic-Con 2013 earlier this summer. Though the trailer gave no indication if rumors of cutting Mary Jane from the sequel, fans did get a glimpse at the first sliver of plot details, and know Spider-Man's biggest threat is the sequels major villain Electro. Jamie Foxx was cast as the new enemy.

As for Mary Jane, originally cast for the role, Shailene Woodley all but confirmed the iconic character wouldn't make it into The Amazing Spider Man 2.

"Of course I'm bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film."

While Peter Parker may have to wait a little longer to find the love of his life, but don't worry, he'll have his hands full with all of the new villains. Jamie Foxx has already been confirmed as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Norman Osbourne could transition into the Green Goblin in the movie.

Sony's been dropping a more plot details, hinting at possibly 3 new villains. The Tumblr page for The Daily Bugle, the newspaper from Spider-Man, posted an article by a writer for newspaper, Ned Leeds, about the trial of Curt Connors, The Lizard from the first Amazing Spider Man movie. Comics characters Anne Weying and Donald Menken are also mentioned in the fictional article.

Ned Leeds eventually gets brainwashed and turns into a villain from the comics, the Hobgoblin. Anne Weying is the wife of Eddie Brock. He becomes Venom and she becomes Lady Venom. Menken is Osbourne's assistant.

Was Sony just sparking some hype or dropping some major plot details?

Is this going to be an Avengers-style villain group? Is Mary Jane going to be cut from the sequel?

The Amazing Spider Man 2 has a release date scheduled for May 2014.
