Leeland Calls Its Listeners To Action
The Texas Christian rock band Leeland got their start in 2004. Since then they've released two previous studio albums, 'Sound of Melodies' (2006 debut), and 'Opposite Way' (2008) along with having also been nominated for both, Grammy and Dove Awards.
On their latest release, 'Love Is On The Move,' the band's music has taken a shift into reaching out to the hurting, poor, and lonely. Here's what band main songwriter, lead singer and guitarist, Leeland Mooring had to say about it, "For awhile, we were just this band from Baytown, Texas, and all we saw was our little church where God had been doing awesome and incredible things. But He's really been opening our vision to all the hurting people, especially the poor, around the world and making it clear we should help by being a part of spreading His kingdom...”
That vision of reaching out to others can be found in the lyrics of the songs found on, 'Love Is On The Move.' Track-1,"The Door," is a passion filled song that provides a mixture of up tempo and melodic beats, as it talks about being lost in the overwhelming love of Jesus.
Track-2, "Follow You," features a special guest appearance from artist Brandon Heath. The song talks about faith without works as being dead and the need to reach out to others who are in need with a Christ-like love.
Track-6, "New Creation," was my favorite track found on, 'Love Is On the Move.' The song is a nice rock song that's filled with guitar and drum work that keeps it moving along briskly. The song talks about being redeemed and a new creation, being born again and not afraid. This is one of those types of songs that offer up simple, yet powerful, catchy lyrics that will have you singing joyfully along with them after just one listen.
I also enjoyed several of the songs that let the piano take the lead in them, songs like, "Lift Your Eyes Up", "Love Is On The Move", and "Holy Spirit Have Your Way." Some of the songs also include rich, almost orchestral sounding, string parts that provided a nice counterpoint to the rock music found in the songs.
The final track, "My Jesus," is the most straight up passionate song, with lyrics that call out to God to be cleansed and become lost in God's love and mercy.
The band called on award-winning veteran Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band) and their longtime friend Steve Wilson (Fish, Hawk Nelson) to handle the production end of things on this release.
'Love Is On The Move,' does a very good job of mixing worshipful vocals with a progressive brand of rock music that isn't afraid to let its softer side show through from time-to-time.
You'll also be able to catch the band out on tour this fall with Brandon Heath, and special guest Francesca Battistelli on the, "Follow You Tour," sponsored by Food for the Hungry.
