Kit Kittredge: An American Girl promises to be a family friendly hit this summer. Based on the original American Girl series, the film focuses on the adventures of a young aspiring journalist, Kit Kittredge. Kit, Played by Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Nim’s Island) is not your typical reporter, and just years shy of her teens you would not expect her to be the one solving the a mystery in her town of Cincinnati. With the help of her friends, Sterling played by Zack Mills and Ruthie played by Madison Davenport, as well her companion a basset hound named alongside Grace; she is able to catch the culprits behind robberies in the neighborhood.
Taking place during the depression era the film provides a look into the lives of those who struggled during that period in American history. Whether standing in soup kitchen lines, taking in boarders, or selling eggs to make ends meet, Kit’s parents played by Chris O’Donnell and Julia Ormond are determined to make it through together. While Kit’s father goes away to find work in Chicago, she takes on the responsibility of helping her mother out around the house as well as trying to get an article published in the newspaper. The family takes in an eclectic bunch of boarders, including a magician Played by Stanley Tucci, a librarian Played by Joan Cusack, and a dancer played by Jane Krakowski as well as provides work for trouble hobos Will and Countee Played by Max Theiriot and Willow Smith. Needless to say the Kittredge home is full of adventure and personality.
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl provides lots of laughs all while showing the importance generosity, love and honesty even during hardships. It is certainly must see for the whole family!
