Martha Munizzi’s twin sister, Mary Alessi, continues to make a name for herself as she releases, When Women Worship (Miami Life Sounds,
$16.98) - the follow-up to her best-selling 2005 CD, More - on March 13, 2007.
Alessi’s “friends” are all renowned in their own light. Her sister, Martha, is known for her gospel hits “Glorious” and “Because of Who You Are.” The project also features Da’Dra Crawford-Greathouse from the contemporary Christian duo, Anointed; Ingrid Rosario, a
Spanish-language praise artist; Nicole Binion; Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff (minister of music at Joel Osteen’s 20,000+ member Lakewood Church in Houston); and Amie Dockery, who co-wrote the book, When Women Worship (Regal Books, $12.99) with Alessi.
Over a year ago, Dockery approached Alessi about co-writing a book on the worship experience. Alessi agreed and saw the natural intersection of such a book and a recording built on a similar theme.
Once again, “Things just got bigger than I had ever imagined they would,” Mary says. “Cindy jumped on board; then my sister, then Ingrid. All these amazingly talented women wanted to be a part of this.”
The resulting book and CD speak eloquently to issues unique to women and the worship experience, as well as anyone feeling trapped, demeaned, or injured by the arrows that life and circumstance have aimed their way. Matching her words with action, Alessi also has a girl’s home, Mercy House, that is sponsored by the church her husband, Steve, and she pastor in Miami.
“My heart is so much for young women [suffering from self-esteem issues, unwed mothers, etc.], for them to understand that the presence of God is a place they can always go to. They may feel rejected by people, `the system,’” Alessi says. “ …We want to really help women understand that their worship creates a refuge they can run into and be safe.”
